Moth Metamorphosis

“We are always in transition.  If you can just relax with that, you’ll have no problem”.   -Trungpa Rinpoche
My house has been infested with small white moths.  They are harmless, yet frustrating because we cannot figure out where they are coming from.  I spent the weekend cleaning cupboards and making sure all my dry goods were in plastic containers, sure that I had solved the problem. This morning one harmlessly floated by me as if to say…we are still here!
I was telling a friend that I needed to find an exterminator, and she shifted my perspective and reminded me that moths represent total transformation.   Like butterfly, they go through 4 distinct stages of change: egg, caterpillar, cocoon, and finally a transformed, winged creature.  My friend lovingly reminded me that I’m going through lots of changes, shedding the old, and moving into new forms of me.  She told me to enjoy the moths…perhaps they are reminding me of my own metamorphosis.
Change is the only constant in life, and the force of creation.  We are all facing change in our lives, not matter how big or small.  Even just the shift from Winter to Spring signifies some upheaval in our lives.  Yoga and Ayurveda teach that during the junctions between seasons when all of nature is in flux that we need to be especially mindful about engaging in nourishing activities.
You are worth it – so take the time to really care for yourself so you can seamlessly transition the changes you are faces, whether it is just the transition to Spring, or something far more life changing.
